Nationwide Building Society

Nationwide publish mix-adjusted UK and regional house price index that tracks a representative house (and close to the ODPM/LR median) over time and going back to 1952. It's based on a sample of mortgage lending data at the post survey approval stage. The index is seasonally adjusted using an X12 methodology.

Halifax Bank of Scotland HBOS plc

Halifax publish a mix-adjusted UK and regional house price index that tracks the typically transacted house (again similar to Halifax and close to the ODPM/LR median) going back to 1983. The mix-adjustment is based on hedonic regression of  near-complete set sampling of the the Halifax mortgage data at the approval stage. The index is seasonally adjusted using an X12 methodology.

Rightmove.co.uk

Rightmove's house price index is compiled from initial asking prices of property placed on Rightmove each month by estate agents and represents about 50% of the total market. The index is particularly useful as it’s large sample size reduces volatility and as it measures asking prices during the previous month it provides a good insight into current trends. However it is not seasonally corrected.

Acadametrics

Acadametrics publish the FT House Price Index (aka AcadHPI) based on the relatively complete LR price data but achieve timeliness by including a forecast element that compensates for the lag inherent in sold price data.

Department for Communities and Local Government DCLG (formerly ODPM)

DCLG is the successor department to the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) with a remit to promote community cohesion and equality, as well as responsibility for housing, urban regeneration, planning and local government.

Note: The CLG are in the process of rearranging their website and have moved everything around. This section will be updated when they've finally sorted themselves out.

The DCLG (formerly ODPM) publish several house price indices (simple average, new mix-adjusted, median) based on either Land Registry data collected at the sale registration stage or on mortgage data at the sale completion stage. The LR based indices, although eventually authorative because they are based on a near complete sample, have a limited predictive value because of lags in the data collection process and publication dates.
